A lot of people are asking me and too curious to what I do for a living. When I answer them, they started to ask these questions, How I have started my real estate career and How I did it by just doing online?
To be honest with you guys, before I engaged into this business, I don’t have any interest in this industry, as in 0% interest. But how did it started?
Way back 2010, right after I graduated my course AB Political Science, I don’t have any idea what to do. I could still remember up to now the pressure. I was the eldest in the family. I came from a broken family and I felt like I must be responsible enough to help mom to suffice our needs. But HOW? I don’t feel like going back to my previous job while I was studying, as an ESL Tutor.
I don’t have plans. I don’t know what I wanted to do. One thing I was very sure of that time, I don’t feel like working outside my comfort zone. I don’t feel like leaving my siblings alone at home. I don’t feel like getting up early in the morning, rush to the busy street so I won’t be late at work. I can’t imagine myself doing that routine everyday.
I was not employed for 1 year and 6 mos. Until, I've decided to go online. I want to work at home, I’m very sure of that. That journey wasn't easy. There are lots of job offers online and I don’t even know which one was legit. So, I tried networking. Worked with a team, worked on to some paying Paid to Click jobs as that was the trend before. I was actually earning that time by just doing that, but it’s not helping mom for the bills. So when I found about oDesk (which is now Upwork), it interests me. HOW? What work should I apply? I don’t even have a job experience?
Yes, that was hard as well but I made it. I have no marketing or any business experience. But, I was hired as a data entry specialist, an article writer, a website promoter and an ad poster. Then when a Virtual assistant job was a hit, I did a self-study. Did a lot of research and read some articles online about it just for me to relate what was it. Tried applying some Virtual assistant jobs and get the chance to join some free virtual trainings with no fee. Until, I finally got a Real Estate virtual assistant job in 2011. Worked part time to some US Real estate Investors and worked Full time to a Real estate brokerage in Canada.
I loved my job. I've realized that it’s very important to love your job, than force to work a job you don’t love. In this way, you won’t feel tired. You just feel like working 24/7 without any stress feelings to help the company and the people you are working with. I was just so grateful to be part of a real estate brokerage company in Canada. This is where and when my interest in the real estate industry has started.
They have trained me well. I've learned that, in the business, CUSTOMER SERVICE is very important. You have to be prompt too and attentive to some tasks given to you. I've learned as well, that distance is never a barrier when working with a team far from you in achieving a common goal for the company. It’s very fulfilling and overwhelming, to get a feedback from clients who loved and appreciate your service. It’s flattering to receive an emails or calls from those clients you've assisted as they wanted to meet you, to thank you personally. We’re very happy to know that they’re satisfied with the help of everyone in the company. My employer has raised my fee, they gave me incentives. I've earned a lot and that I shouldered family’s needs. I was compensated well. It gave me the chance to travel outside my hometown and meet new people not just online. Baguio, was my dream destination since I was in college and that was a dream come true when I got to the place last 2012.
Prior with my Baguio trip, I was invited to join an orientation for estate agents in Cebu. I've accepted the invitation. Why not? If I made it to US or Canada, why not in my hometown? So I've joined in but didn't took it seriously.
Until I traveled in Baguio. I've stayed there for a week. Transient house owner asked me what I do for a living, so I answered her questions. Until I've got an offer from her the night I’m about to leave Baguio, to sell her daughter’s house. I haven’t seen that house. But told her, let’s see what I can to do to help you dispose it.
Then time comes, when the company I've worked in has to end my contract. While looking for other job offers, I tried selling the house in Baguio. But before that, I did a lot of questions of course to the house owner, pictures for my marketing and location of it. I then applied what I've learned from my previous job experiences and it went well. I found it fun to do, happy to talk and serve to people who are living in the same country as me looking for their dream home. I am very happy to serve them what they are looking for but I only have one property to offer.
I've seen the demand of people looking for properties in Baguio. I don’t want to waste the leads I have gathered. I don’t want to waste the opportunity too to some agents / house owners looking to sell their Baguio city properties. That was the time I took real estate seriously.
In my real estate online marketing, VP Marketing of Goshen Land Capital Inc., a real estate developer in Baguio City has found me via Linkedin. I could still remember how busy I was looking for some real estate brokers’ contact info and their websites, so I can send them proposals to work with them and will personally meet them in Baguio for that. But a notification has popped up, I got an offer in my email from that company who found me. I stopped what I did and without hesitation, I've accepted the offer. I was under the supervision of one of the area managers of GLCI, Froilan Calera from Team Integrity. Then that was the start of my real estate career. Until, I met new friends in Baguio. Stayed their long and when some of my friends passed the brokerage exam, I've joined their group and now, I’m part of the real estate brokerage company they've built, working as the Chief Marketing Officer of AMG Group Realty and Development Inc.
Above all, I could say, I got my dream online job - to work at home. I can work anytime I want and where I am at. It takes an awful desire, determination, persistence and perseverance to get it. The road may not be easy but with God's guidance, my clients' full trust and the right people I'm with, I'm still in this industry.
